Where a participant is under the age of 18, we only collect personal information with the consent of a parent or legal guardian. We take special care to protect children’s information and will not use it for marketing purposes without explicit consent.

3. How We Collect Information

We collect information directly when you:

  • Register for a program, scrimmage, tour, or event.
  • Subscribe to publications, newsletters, or marketing.
  • Submit forms, surveys, or applications.
  • Please communicate with us by email, phone, or social media.
  • Purchase tickets, merchandise, or services.

We may also collect information:

  • From parents or guardians when participants are under 18.
  • From third parties such as event partners, insurers, or service providers, where necessary.

4. Storage, Security and Retention

We store information securely in both electronic and physical forms. Safeguards include:

  • Password-protected systems and encryption.
  • Access controls and confidentiality agreements for staff and service providers.
  • Compliance with the Notifiable Data Breaches Scheme (NDBS).

If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

We retain personal information only for as long as it is reasonably necessary to fulfil the purposes outlined in this Policy, or as required by law (e.g., tax, insurance, or child safety recordkeeping requirements). Once no longer required, information will be securely destroyed or de-identified.

5. How We Use Information

We may use personal information to:

  • Verify identity and administer participation in programs.
  • Communicate about events, schedules, updates and opportunities.
  • Conduct risk management and ensure health and safety.
  • Market Basketball Magic Australia services, events and programs (unless you opt out).

Health information may be used only for ensuring safe participation in activities and for insurance purposes.

Unless you opt out, we may use personal information for direct marketing (emails, SMS, newsletters). You may opt out at any time by using the “unsubscribe” link in communications or contacting us directly.

We will not use children’s information for direct marketing unless we have explicit parental/guardian consent.
